 Save Sad Eye Joe is an ongoing project working to secure the release of Joe also known as Sad eye Joe from the Calico jail in Buena Park California USA. Records show that Joe has been incarcerated since 1941 in a small 4 by 6 foot cell hardly tall enough for a man to stand up in and stretch his legs and most of the time he is shackled with leg irons and also handcuffed in chains. The cell is unbearably hot in the summer and cold and damp in the winter months. What's more the cell is open to the public whom often taunt Sad Eye Joe. He has been locked up for over fifty years without one conjugal visit! In all these many years Joe has been a modle prisoner with a good disposition but has never been given a REVIEW for paroll and there is no records to be found of exactly how long Joe was to serve in these sub human conditions. During the many years we have been working to free Joe from jail we have had one major success in the mid 1970s when the Calico Jail was moved from across from the Boot Hill grave yard to a location downtown in Calico just behind Goldie's Place. Can you imagine the terrible mental anguish of looking out of a cell and your only view is a grave yard? Another matter we are concerned about is the merchandising of Sad Eye Joe's image and Likeness over the many decades the town of Calico has earned them selves quite a pretty penny and we mean like a wagon load of silver dollars with out compensation of one plug nickle to Joe or his family. It is hard to belive such an outrageous travisty could go unnoticed for so long. Please help our cause to FREE Sad Eye Joe from the the Calico Jail. |
