| These are samples of the audio tracks that occasionally accompany my ebay art auctions. They are extensions of the story vocalized in words and music that add a further dimension to the concept of my artwork. There are also samples here from experimental music sessions that I've made over the years. I began experimenting with electronic music in the early 1980s by patching together audio test generators and home audio equipment in the back room of a stereo repair shop that I operated for several years. "If only the customers knew what I was doing with their cherished sound equipment!"
I made the first recordings of my own homemade experimental electronic music there and continued building and refining my equipment and techniques until 1998 when I began intensively working with the DJ equipment I had assembled for live stage shows I was producing at the time. I soon began buying more equipment for my home studio and even managed to get a hold of a real analog synthesizer (Prophet-5) at a local swap-meet to complement my home-brewed electronic circuits and rebuilt audio toys. I have made recordings in many styles: Beat poetry with minimal instrument backing, harsh noise industrial sounds, 1950s SciFi space sounds, Theremin, Prophet 5 synthesizer, noisescapes, collages of found sounds from home and the city, and shortwave radio samples. Often there are no melodies, beats or rhythms to be found in my recordings, at least not in the classic sense. I am exploring the boundaries of sound and creating audio environments of experimental electronic music. - Fred Wilder - |
