Fred Wilder
Original Artist Prints
Fred Wilder makes original artist' prints mainly by using the intaglio etching process. Occasionally he works with collagraph, and monotype printing techniques. There is allot more work to creating the matrix or (plate) than painting a picture. And pulling the print involves inking the plate each time the print is pulled. This involves allot of tedious wiping, dabbing, cleaning, elbow grease, and sweat that often results in a spoiled paper and starting over from scratch. The copper plate has to be filed and worked then acid is used to cut the image into the metal. Its allot of work but worth the cool results when it all comes together. Fred pulls each print himself on his 30 year old press from his studio in Southern California. Each print from the edition is the result of unique hand-inking and painting of the plate, thus each piece will be slightly different from all others in the series keeping to Fred's conviction of producing original art via the manual printing process and not of selling mass produced "posters" such as Limited edition offset-litho, or giclée prints. Fred says those are not original prints they are merely Reproductions with the only value residing in the autograph. Fred is firm in his conviction to only make and sell artwork not posters.
If you like Disney, or English cottages then you wont like my stuff look somewhere else.
